Summer 2015 news
UtopYA 2015 has come and gone. I had such a wonderful time there I’ve already signed on for next year in Nashville!!! It’s now called simply Utopia. Easier to say and read, yes? And the theme is Fight for your Right to Write.
You can read my blog post on the Nashville event and see photos here. I also had a good time at RT Booklovers in Dallas. See my photos and post from RT here. I LOVED meeting my readers, making new readers and friends, meeting fellow authors and bloggers, and spreading the word on what I write. I’ll be signing up for more book cons next year so if you’d like to meet and chat, keep checking my events page for new listings.
There are more books cooking in my inspirational fire pit. My YA contemporary novel Heart in a Box will launch with Inkspell Teen’s brand new TEEN imprint in December 2015! And I’ve just completed an adult romantic suspense about a young witch. That’s all I can say right now. Yay for summer and great writing retreats near the beach.

Dorianna is a dark twist for the Internet generation on A Picture of Dorian Gray. When her father is jailed, her mother ships lonely, plain Dorianna to her aunt’s. There, Dorianna yearns to build a new identity, but the popular Lacey bullies her—mostly for getting attention from her ex, Ander. Ander takes Dorianna to Coney Island where Wilson, a videographer, creates a stunning compilation of her. She dreams of being an online sensation, as she’s never even had a birthday party, and vows she’d give anything to go viral. Wilson claims he’s the Prince of Darkness and warns her the pledge has downsides. Dorianna thinks he’s joking. She has no idea of how dire the consequences might be.

Summer 2013 News:
Fireseed One has won three awards! First, it earned the 2013 Bronze Wishing Shelf Independent Book Award. This unique award was voted on by teens in the UK and Sweden, after reading the novels submitted. Thanks to these schools: Worsley Bridge Primary School, Rokesly Junior School, Montpelier Primary School, Meadlands Primary School, St George the Martyr Primary School, Gainsborough Primary School, Gospel Oak Primary School, Mossfrd Green Primary School & Pelham Primary School
Fireseed One also won finalist spots for both YA and science-fiction in the 2013 USA Book News International Book Awards, and an Indie Reader Approved notable seal!
If everything about you changes, what remains?
Seventeen year-old Ruby, long-pledged to the much older Stiles from the Fireseed desert cult, escapes with only a change of clothes, a pouch of Oblivion Powder and her mute little brother, Thorn.
Arriving at The Greening, a boarding school for orphaned teens, she can finally stop running. Or can she? The Greening is not what it seems. Students are rampaging out of control and as she cares for the secret Fireseed crop, she experiences frightening physical changes. She’s ashamed of her attraction to burly, hard-talking Blane, the resident bodyguard, and wonders why she can’t be happy with the gentler Armonk. She’s long considered her great beauty a liability, a thing she’s misused in order to survive. And how is she to stop her dependence on Oblivion to find a beauty within, using her talent as a maker of salves, when she has nightmares of Stiles without it?
When George Axiom, wealthy mogul of Vegas-by-the-Sea offers a huge cash prize for the winner of a student contest, Ruby is hopeful she might collect the prize to rescue her family and friends from what she now knows is a dangerous cult. But when Stiles comes to reclaim her, and Thorn sickens after creating the most astonishing contest project of all, the world Ruby knows is changed forever.
This romantic fantasy set in 2099 on earth has a crafty heroine in Ruby, and a swoonworthy cast, which will surely appeal to the YA and new adult audience.
In the meantime, catch up by ordering and reading the first in this award-winning series:

There are twists and turns around every corner, and Stine really throws some surprises in there!… Varik was a strong, relatable protagonist. He was the perfect troubled hero. He had a big weight on his shoulders… Marisa is my favorite character in Fireseed One. You never know where she truly stands, and she definitely keeps you guessing!”
Summary: What if only your very worst enemy could help you save the world?
Fireseed One, a YA thriller, is set on a near-future earth with soaring heat, toxic waters, tricked-out amphibious vehicles, ice-themed dance clubs and fish that grow up on vines. Varik Teitur inherits a vast sea farm after the mysterious drowning of his marine biologist father. When Marisa Baron, a beautiful and shrewd terrorist, who knows way too much about Varik’s father’s work, tries to steal seed disks from the world’s food bank, Varik is forced to put his dreams of becoming a doctor on hold and venture with her, into a hot zone teeming with treacherous nomads and a Fireseed cult who worships his dead father, in order to search for Fireseed, a seemingly magical hybrid plant that may not even exist. Illustrated by the author. Fans of Under the Never Sky and Feed will likely enjoy this novel, as well as those who like a dash of romance with their page-turners.
